The first SAS project kicked-off with Lee Greenwood at Big Sky Resort with a banquet on January 7, 2011. This banquet started a 5-day event introducing wounded warriors to winter adventures, outdoor sports, hunting and fishing. This entire event for wounded warriors was made possible by sponsors and volunteers!
Each year, Operation SAS will be held at Big Sky Resort, just outside beautiful Bozeman, Montana.
Speakers at the 2011 winter SAS included Tim Medvetz from Highway to Everest; Marc Hoffmeister, FLTC MIL USARPAC from Operation Denali; world champion paralympic cyclist, Sam Kavanagh.
Along with Lee kicking-off Operation SAS as our MC, other personalities welcomed our warrior guests to Montana by video: Taylor Swift, John Elway, R. Lee Ermey, Ted Nugent, Senator Tester and Senator Baucus all expressed their thanks and encouragement through an inspiring audiovisual produced by ONF. Senator Tester was also present at the banquet along with Lieutenant Governor John Bohlinger and his wife Karen, a mother of a wounded warrior.
Entertainers included comedians, Marc Yaffee and Mark Sweeney who both performed previously in Iraq for our deployed Troops. See more about what happened at the BANQUET & AGENDA.
There was a $7,200 big game Montana hunt drawing for the warrior guests. This hunt was organized and contributed by MOGA's "Big Hearts Under The Big Sky" program. The prize also included travel, hunting license, taxidermy and meat processing with the support by ONF.
The live auction had something for all outdoor enthusiasts and for collectors of unique items such as a Gibson guitar personally signed by Lee Greenwood - SEE MORE!

SAS not only became a sportsman's dream but a place to chill, a time with nature, exciting adventure, and a chance to learn new skills using the latest in adaptive gear. For some, it was a romantic get-a-way with with their spouse. As important, SAS created bonding of new friendships among Veterans!
From ascending a natural ice climb, snow-coaching through Yellowstone, dog sled trekking through forest, gazing over mountain tops when about to ski or snowboard down the best powder slopes in the country, and snowmobiling through the most beautiful winter terrain... to workshops on fly fishing, big game meat processing, archery and PTSD clinics... it created Big Sky memories to never forget!
Help give wounded warriors the chance to empower "their pursuit" of a life of excellence through challenging and peaceful activities. Warriors will have the chance to pursue their dreams through new opportunities and support. SAS helps ease the burdens of the wounded and their families, aids in the recovery process, and assist in the transition back to the type of civilian life they strive for.
